InvitationsCut a piece of fake fur in the shape of a monster and glue it to a piece of cardstock. Hot glue googly eyes, a pom pom nose, and a felt mouth to create a face. On the other side write the pertinent information about your monster's party. Games:Spider’s WebCreate a web around a room by wrapping pieces of string (such as white yarn) around chairs, tables, under rugs, etc. As guests arrive, give them an end of a piece of string and send them on their way twisting and turning around the room until they come to the other end which is attached to a special prize. You can make the room even more dramatic by replacing regular light bulbs with colored ones. We used blue; it was spectacular! Monster BallsBlow up Balloons and place a marble through the neck of each one before you tie the end. These “Monster Balls” move around the room in strange ways! Divide the group into teams and release one balloon for every child. To make it challenging, release an extra balloon for each team. The object is to keep all the balloons up in the air. The team who lets a Monster Ball fall to the floor first loses. Monster TagCreate a dark room by covering all windows and replace lamps with blue light bulbs. One child is given a flashlight and the others hide around the room. When the monster with the flashlight shines the light on a child, that child is caught and must go to the monster's cave. The last child found wins. Find the Black Widow Spider!Children scurry around the house looking for black plastic spiders. One of the spiders has a red diamond on her underside! The partier who finds this one wins a prize. Mummy WrapDivide the group into teams of two. Supply each team with a roll Monster FootstepsThe birthday child is the monster in this game. Have her wear a monster mask and stand with her back the other players. Place a prize by her side. The players creep up on the monster while her back is turned. When the monster turns around, the players must freeze where they are. If the monster sees anyone move, that person must start over. The winner grabs the prize without getting caught. Monster's DinnerGuess what the monster is having for dinner by blindfolding the children and having them guess by smell and feel what certain unusually textured objects are. Some good ideas are cooked spaghetti, jello (sugar free isn’t sticky), olives, lettuce leaves, grapes, etc. Other AmusementsMonster BodyWhat you will need: *About 5 foot length poster paper or butcher block paper Create a life-size monster on the poster paper - Don’t forget a spooky background! Spray glue this to the cardboard. Cut a hole the size of a child’s head where the monster's face should be. Lean the monster against the back of a chair and take pictures of each guest. These photo’s can be included in your child’s thank-you notes. Haunted HousesPre-make small houses using graham crackers glued together with the following: Royal Icing(This sticky icing acts as the “mortar” to hold the house together.) 2 ½ cups powdered sugar Put everything in a small, non-plastic mixing bowl. Beat on high speed until it is glossy and holds peaks, about 5 minutes. This icing dries quickly, so cover it with plastic wrap when your not using it. Give each child a house and provide spooky decorations such as candy corns, gummi worms, Halloween candies, ugly crackers, etc. When we did this, two adults walked around the birthday table with cake decorating bags with tips full of Royal Icing. We placed “glue” where the children requested. This saved us the trouble of a lot of sticky messes! Styrofoam Racin’ MonstersHave guests use permanent markers to create monsters on LARGE size Styrofoam cups. Place the monster cups on a cookie sheet lined with tin foil. Bake these in a 425゚oven for a few minutes. Watch closely!! They melt quickly. Watch the monsters transform into grotesque little creatures that turn hard when they cool. After they have cooled, have relay races using an elevated board and a marble under each monster. This game can go on for quite a while!! It is a real party gem. The CakeMonster's Favorite Worm CakeThis is made by topping a chocolate sheet cake with crumbled Oreo cookies and inserting gummy worms so they look as if they’re crawling out of the cake. Mmmm . . . great fun! One more idea: The Green MonsterTo make a true monster cake, bake two small cakes. One is a basic 8 or 9 inch round cake and the other is baked in an oven-safe mixing bowl. Place the bowl cake upside-down on the round cake and frost the entire thing in green icing. Then cover it all in green tinted coconut. Use a string of licorice for the mouth, large gumdrops with frosted black centers for the eyes, and pipe cleaners for the hands. A Monsterly DrinkFloating Hand in Green Goo PunchFill a surgical glove with grape juice and freeze overnight. If you want to get really gruesome, add gummi bugs or worms to the hand as well!! The gummies expand as they freeze and look really yucky!
